Europe seeks solutions to the energy crisis

First modification:

Inflation in the euro zone has exceeded 9%. Europeans face increasingly expensive prices amid the energy crisis facing the bloc in anticipation of a harsh winter. Many governments are already preparing so-called “contingency plans” and Europe is on alert for the interruption of Russian gas supply through the Nord Stream gas pipeline this week. But not all partners have the same level of dependency on Russian gas, which is now being tried to reduce as much as possible.

In this chapter of Spotlight we address a central issue in Europe: the consequences of the war in Ukraine in the homes of Europeans.

The energy crisis is already causing us to talk about the forecasts for a harsh winter with restrictions and plans for energy sobriety.

We analyze how Europe is preparing to face this crisis and the solutions that it is studying in the face of such complex challenges as the reform of the electricity market. To discuss this topic we talked with our guests:

– Rafael Cañas, head of the EFE delegation in Paris.

– María Eugenia Sanín, economics professor specializing in energy.

– Enric Bonet, correspondent for ‘El Periódico’ in Paris.
