Vatican City () – As a preview, “Mother Teresa: there is no greater love” was presented at the Vatican. This is a new documentary about Mother Teresa of Calcutta, the saint of the poor, whose 25th anniversary of her death will be celebrated in a few days. The film was produced by the Knights of Columbus, through material extracted from the archives of the Missionaries of Charity, testimonies and reports filmed in some of the communities in which the nuns perform their service. The documentary recounts the life of the nun, but also the stories of how her charisma continues to this day, from the most remote villages in the Amazon to the Bronx, from the slums of Kenya to Crackolandia, the neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro disfigured by the drug traffic. Directed by director David Naglieri and with a duration of 1 hour and 55 minutes, the documentary will be screened in more than 900 theaters in the United States and Canada from October 3, the date of its premiere.
“The intent was above all to tell the story of Mother Teresa to the generation that is too young to have heard of her directly,” explained Knights of Columbus Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly during the launch press conference. “Even several young nuns -added Fr. Brian Kolodiejchuk, missionary of charity and postulator of the cause of canonization-, through the preview of this film, they could finally see the Mother ‘in action’. And at the end of the documentary they are reminded that Calcutta is everywhere, everyone can experience the love of Mother Teresa doing extraordinary things in everyday life”.
The Archbishop of Boston, Card. Sean O’Malley also wanted to contribute his own memory of Mother Teresa, whom he met when he was still a young friar. “Throughout her life,” O’Malley said, Mother Teresa “showed the merciful face of God, assuring people that she is loved, because when people know they are loved they believe our message.” “.
“This documentary will also be a source of inspiration for those who did not know her”, adds Sister Myriam Thérèse, regional superior of the Missionaries of Charity. “It is beautiful to be able to see what God did in her and what he continues to do in the past. who have followed in his footsteps.” “The mother was convinced of our nothingness, that without God we can do nothing,” she recalls. “Everything stems from attachment to the person of Jesus, from union with God in prayer, in Eucharist and in the poor. I believe that Mother Teresa calls us all to remain open to God’s love and to give it in our service to the poor”, he concludes. “This will also bring light and hope to today’s world”.
