Ukraine’s president warned the invading forces to withdraw after counter-offensives launched around Kherson. According to the president, kyiv is gradually regaining control of its territory, a version that Moscow denies.
The conflict in Eastern Europe continues after six months since it began, at a time when Ukraine is seeking to recover some sectors of the territory that fell under Russian rule.
On the night of Monday, August 29, the president of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelensky, warned the Russian militias that “if they want to survive, it is time for them to flee”.
After a successful counter-offensive –according to the Ukrainian Army- in Kherson, the head of state urged the invaders to “go home”.
“Ukraine is taking back what is its own,” added Zelensky, who also promised that they will pursue their opponents “to the border.”
On the Russian military side, they stressed that the local advance failed.
The top Ukrainian presidential adviser, Oleksiv Arestovych, claimed that the Russian defenses in Kherson were broken “within a few hours”.
In return, this Tuesday the Kremlin spokesman, Dmitri Peskov, reiterated that Russia’s objectives “will be achieved.”
In addition to Kherson, Moscow’s attacks in the Kharkiv region also continued. The regional governor, Oleh Synehoubov, detailed on Telegram that at least four people were killed and four others were injured in a bombing in the city center.
For its part, the Zaporizhia nuclear plant continues to be one of the main focuses. The facilities, the largest on the continent, recorded explosions near a fuel building by Ukraine in the last 24 hours, Russian troops reported.
Meanwhile, kyiv accused Moscow of bombing one of the corridors that IAEA officials need to reach the atomic power plant.
Ukraine denounces the theft of tons of grain
The Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Markiyan Dmytrasevych, told a conference in Brussels that Russia extracted “between 500,000 and 800,000 tons of grain”, a matter that is being dealt with at the diplomatic and judicial levels. “We have different estimates,” the official added.
Dmytrasevych warned that the routes established in the agreement between kyiv and Moscow, mediated by the United Nations and Turkey, cannot be considered stable. Instead, he reported that there is “progress” regarding the land routes sponsored by the European Union.
However, there are security problems yet to be resolved, especially due to the mining of farm fields. Another aspect to be solved is the lack of fertilizer, which could mean that next season there will be 30 or 60% fewer plantations.
This Tuesday, a UN-sponsored ship arrived in Djibouti with 23,000 tons of Ukrainian wheat, with final destination Ethiopia, the World Food Program (WFP) announced.
The Brave Commander set sail from the Ukrainian port of Pivdenny on August 16. “The first WFP ship carrying Ukrainian grain since February has just arrived in Djibouti. Now let’s unload this wheat and ship it to Ethiopia,” WFP Executive Director David Beasley wrote on Twitter.
