( Spanish) — This Sunday, September 4, the constitutional plebiscite will take place in Chile, with which Chileans will decide whether or not to approve the country’s new Constitution.

This plebiscite comes after the Constitutional Convention produced in July the eraser of a new Constitution, almost three years after the “social outbreak” in the streets of Chile that led to a referendum to change the Magna Carta.

Chileans will go out to vote, on a mandatory basis, on Sunday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, according to the Chilean Electoral Service (Servel).

It should be remembered that those who do not vote will receive a sanction. The only people who will not incur a sanction will be those who do not vote “due to illness, absence from the country, being on the day of the plebiscite in a place located more than two hundred kilometers from the one where their electoral domicile is registered or due to another serious impediment “, and they will have to verify their situation before the competent judge, according to the article 142 of the current Chilean Constitution.

How will the electoral card of the constitutional plebiscite be?

When you get to the place where you have to vote (You can check the voting table and location here), the members will ask for your identification (identity card or passport) and then they will give you an electoral card, stamp and a pencil (you can bring your own too).

Article 142 of the Constitution mentions that the electoral card/card will show the following legend: “Do you approve the text of the New Constitution proposed by the Constitutional Convention?”

Taking this into account, you will have two options to vote: “I approve” and “I reject”.

The Servel announced this Tuesday, August 30, how the electoral card with that question and the two possible answers. We show it below:
