Moscow () – Interest in esoteric arts is growing rapidly in Russia, with traffic to astrology, divination and numerology websites increasing by 38% in the last year, according to data published by the Yota agency. Russians spend more and more hours consulting these portals, and magical rituals are in high demand, resulting in an increasingly profitable business: in Siberia and the European part of Russia, it is estimated that the prices of spells and bills have increased between 40 and 50%.
To perform a chakra cleansing today you have to pay a sum greater than 15 thousand rubles (150 euros), while the “liberation of destructive influences” goes up to 25 thousand rubles. If last year the occult market moved around 2 billion rubles, today it continues to grow month by month, and the Moscow Duma is trying to ban the advertising of fortune tellers, tarot cards and other esoteric services. In Siberia, shamans are especially active at the end of December, in the longest nights of the year, when, according to esoteric beliefs, the world of the living is closest to the one inhabited by the dead. For this reason, on weekend nights rituals are held in which cakes and pancakes are eaten by the spirits of one’s own generation.
In the Siberian region of Kemerovo, for example, an event was held in agreement with the local department of culture, which brought together a group of shamans from Kuzbass, Khakasia and the neighboring Krasnoyarsk region in the Kuznetsky Alatau Museum, with free access to the population announced in the regional media. In reality, the most fervent followers of shamanism consider that these public rites of kamlanija are nothing more than “theatrical performances”, while the authentic ones are only known through the gatherings dedicated to the followers, who gather around the shaman not only to appease the spirits, but also to heal people in the course of the ritual, and you can participate in these special sessions by paying about 10-15 thousand rubles, as many people do in search of salvation.
As Olga Minakova, a resident of Kemerovo, who has been participating in shamanic rituals since 2022, tells Sibir.Realii: «I went the first time because I felt very bad, I didn’t know what to do with my future, I was afraid that my husband would be called to mobilization, and I saw only hunger and impenetrable darkness ahead. At first, he went to the Mabon festival, the day of the winter equinox, also known as “the day of falling leaves.” He assures that “not even the sessions with the psychologist had given me such deep peace”, receiving from the shaman “a sensation of purification, a source of energy and peace at the same time.” He also went to the solstice for the festival of hope, confiding all his wishes for the coming year, asking for the blessing of his ancestors and peace for the whole world, although the shaman told him that the war in Ukraine would not end until 2034, according to what the spirits revealed to him.
