The American president, Joe Biden, held a telephone conversation this Sunday with the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to whom he conveyed the need to reach an agreement that includes “an immediate ceasefire” for the Gaza Strip.

“He has highlighted the immediate need for a ceasefire in Gaza and the return of hostages with an increase in humanitarian aid facilitated by the halt of fighting in accordance with the agreement,” the White House said in a statement.

Washington explains that Biden and Netanyahu have spoken about the negotiations taking place in Doha based on the May 27, 2024 proposal and recalls that “it was unanimously supported by the UN Security Council.”

In addition, Biden has reminded Netanyahu of the latest changes in the area such as the ceasefire in Lebanon, the fall of Bashar al Assad’s regime in Syria or “the weakening of Iran’s power in the region.”

For its part, Netanyahu’s office has highlighted that he has expressed his gratitude to Biden for his support for Israel and “the extraordinary support of the United States for the security and national defense of Israel,” according to the Israeli newspaper ‘The Times’. of Israel’.

Netanyahu has also expressed to Biden his gratitude to President-elect Donald Trump for his “efforts to achieve the release of the hostages.”
