Forget compact mode for Chrome, Google doesn't want it

Last summer we told you about the possible arrival of a compact mode to Google Chrome, a feature that was being tested in a preliminary update and that users could end up enjoying in a stable version soon.

We haven’t known anything about this compact mode for quite some time now. It seems that it will definitely not end up reaching Google Chrome.

Although it was tested on the Canary channel, it seems that it will not pass the experimental phase, since they have discovered a message that confirms its disappearance.

This message confirms that “the compact mode feature in Chrome will be removed because it was an experimental prototype that is no longer being developed.”

In case you don’t know it, Compact mode reduces the height of browser controls to leave more space for web content.

That is, this reduces the height of Chrome controls such as the tab bar, tool bar, and bookmarks bar, making the browser’s user interface wider.

At the time it was a feature of Firefox, although they later discarded part of it.

In this way, one of those features that had raised some hopes to reach Chrome soon has finally not passed the experimental phase and we will not see it in a stable version.
