Sudan's paramilitary leader acknowledges defeat in Uad Madani and calls for reorganizing ranks

MADRID Jan 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The leader of the Sudanese paramilitary organization of the Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, alias ‘Hemedti’, has acknowledged the defeat suffered this past Saturday in the capital of the state of Gezira and the second most important city in the country, Wad Madani, and called to reorganize the war strategy before promising to recover lost ground.

“We have to reorganize ranks and review our strategy,” said alias ‘Hemedti’ on the RSF account on Telegram, before ensuring that the paramilitaries “have lost an assault, but not the battle.”

“We have been fighting for 21 months,” said ‘Hemedti’, referring to the outbreak of the war in Sudan in April 2023, “and we will continue fighting for the next 21 years.”

The RSF took control of the city in December 2023 at the beginning of a wave of serious human rights abuses, including murders, kidnappings and sexual violence.

The defection on October 20 of the leader of the RSF for Gezira, Abu Aqla Kikil, was responded to by the paramilitary organization with a new campaign of terror against the population of the city and its displaced persons camps.

Finally, and after a final offensive that began in December, the military entered the city this past Saturday and are now clearing, neighborhood by neighborhood, the “redoubts” of the paramilitaries, as reported yesterday by the Sudanese Army spokesperson. Khalid al Aiser.
