Zelensky orders a "record" increase in drone production to guarantee Ukraine's independence

MADRID Jan 12 () –

The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, reported this Saturday that he has given the order to increase the production of “all types of drones” in order to reach a “record” production this year that will allow Ukrainian troops to be equipped with “everything that they need” to maintain the country’s independence.

“It is a joint task of arms manufacturers, our government officials and everyone involved: to make this year a record year in terms of all types of drones, as well as to significantly increase the production of Ukrainian missiles, artillery and all necessary equipment,” the president explained in his daily afternoon video message.

In fact, Zelensky has stated that he has already given “instructions to increase the number of orders for drones”, claiming that their arsenals are “one of the guarantees of (their) independence”, in the same way that “the precision of ( his) warriors”.

The leader of the Executive has also celebrated the latest signs of international support, thanking his partners for the “good attack with sanctions” that they have carried out this week.

Specifically, Zelensky has applauded US sanctions against the Russian oil sector, especially “against the fleet of shadow oil tankers and against companies like Surgutneftegaz, which is Putin’s personal pocket”; as well as “the pressure on the Russian nuclear industry to continue holding (its) Zaporiya nuclear plant hostage.”

Along the same lines, he has praised the new sanctions measures announced by the United Kingdom “to limit Moscow’s energy income” and the “new package of sanctions by Japan against Russian weapons production”, which “restricts the supply of components and some important programs that support Russia’s weapons production.”

The war in Ukraine broke out almost three years ago, when at the end of February 2022 the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, gave the order to militarily invade his neighboring country. Since then the conflict has progressed without apparent continuity and with the battle front lines stagnant.
