MADRID Jan. 11 (EUROPA PRESS) –
At least 16 people have died in Israeli attacks on various points in the Gaza Strip since this Saturday morning, according to Palestinian medical sources cited by the pan-Arab network Al Jazeera.
The most serious incident was in Jabalia, where Israeli aircraft bombed the former Zainab al Wazir school, where the displaced population was taking refuge, and eight Palestinians were killed, including two minors and two women. There are also several injured.
The Israeli Armed Forces have confirmed a drone attack against a Hamas “terrorist cell” at the Jabalia school, where they were “preparing attacks against (Israeli) troops in Gaza and against Israel.”
Two other people have been killed in a bombing of a home in the Shuyaiya neighborhood of Gaza City. The house belonged to the Al Haya family, according to the Palestinian news agency WAFA.
Two other people were injured by an Israeli drone attack in Al Jarba al Adas, north of Rafah, at the southern end of the Palestinian enclave.
The Gaza Ministry of Health, linked to the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, estimates that 46,537 people have died and 109,571 have been injured by the military offensive launched by Israel in response to the attacks of October 7, 2023.
The number of deaths published by the Gaza Ministry of Health is, in any case, much lower than that indicated by a scientific study published by the magazine ‘The Lancet’, which estimates that 64,620 have died from “traumatic injuries” in the Palestinian enclave since October 7, 2023 to June 30, 2024.
