In a controversial measure, the Peruvian Congress prohibited its workers from wearing miniskirts and stated that wearing “inappropriate” clothing while working in parliament constitutes a serious offense that could be punished.
The authorities of the Legislative Palace reported at the beginning of the week about “the permitted clothing” of its workers during the summer season, in a statement sent by the human resources area and the administration of Congress.
The notice said that, according to Congressional regulations, workers will be allowed to attend with clothing appropriate to the season and may dispense with the use of a jacket and tie, but “the use of unauthorized clothing, such as jeans, sneakers, shorts, is prohibited. , miniskirts and the like”.
The measure, which is read on a poster in one of the halls of Congress, does not refer to the dress code of the 130 legislators, only to the 3,500 workers of Parliament, one of the most discredited institutions in the country due to complaints of corruption and irregular acts.
Susel Paredes, one of the legislators, said that the ban is “strange” when the prosecutor’s office is investigating an alleged human trafficking network in Congress after the death in December of one of its former officials, and the case of another worker who has had a OnlyFans adult page, according to the investigations.
“Perhaps we are a school of nuns,” said Paredes. “Many women wear miniskirts in Congress, not only workers but also congressmen (…) there is no lack of respect for anyone.”
The tax investigation began after local media reported an alleged prostitution network inside the Legislaturesomething that the Congress leadership has rejected.
