MADRID Jan. 10 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Houthis of Yemen have claimed responsibility this Friday for an attack against the American aircraft carrier ‘USS Harry S. Truman’ and several ships sailing in the Red Sea, an offensive that occurs within the framework of a series of operations carried out by the rebels during the last two days in the area.
The spokesman for the Houthis, Yahya Sari, has indicated that the attack has been carried out with missiles and drones launched from Yemeni territory against United States positions in the northern part of the Red Sea and has assured that they will continue “with the operations until the aggression ends and the blockade on Gaza is lifted.
Likewise, Sari explained during a press conference that on Thursday the rebels also carried out an attack against the Israeli district of Jaffa with three drones. “The targets were successfully hit,” he indicated, according to information from the Al Masira television network, linked to the group.
The Houthis, who have controlled Sanaa and other areas of northern and western Yemen since 2015, began attacking Israeli territory and ships linked to the country in the waters of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden with drones and missiles in response to the military offensive in the Gaza Strip, unleashed after the attacks carried out on October 7, 2023 by Hamas and other Palestinian groups.
The Houthi attacks have led Israel to launch several bombing raids against Yemen, while the United States and the United Kingdom have also carried out airstrikes against the country, arguing that they seek to guarantee the safety of navigation in the area. The rebels have promised to maintain their operations until Israel ends the offensive against Gaza, which has already left nearly 46,000 dead.
