“In its delusional paranoia, the regime has not only closed Venezuela’s airspace, but has activated the entire air defense system. We have therefore evaluated all this and decided that it is not convenient for Edmundo to return to Venezuela today. . “I have asked him not to do it, because his integrity is fundamental for the final defeat of the regime and the transition to democracy that is very close,” he said in a video.
“Edmundo will come to Venezuela to be sworn in as president-elect of Venezuela at the right time, when the conditions are right,” he said.
About his arrest
Machado narrated in a video that this Thursday, after leaving the opposition rally she called in Caracas, she was intercepted by police officers who shot her, captured her and then “suddenly” informed her that they had the order to let her go.
“In order to do it, they asked me to record a video with a faith of life. It took me several hours to get away from the area and take shelter again,” he said.
Machado, 57, who had been in hiding since August, said that she later learned that one of the drivers of the motorcycles accompanying her had been shot and arrested.
Amid moments of confusion, on Thursday, members of her team reported that Machado had been “forcibly detained” and later released. Then, on his social networks, he announced that this Friday he would offer his version of the events.
Senior officials of the Maduro government described the event as a “show” and denied that she had been arrested.
