The British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, received this Thursday the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, at Checkers, the country house of the Head of Government of the United Kingdom, where they addressed the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as migration across the English Channel.
“We reaffirm our commitment to supporting Ukraine, we discussed the situation in the Middle East, the relationship between the United Kingdom and the European Union and we prepare for the next Franco-British summit,” Macron expressed through his profile on the social network. x.
For its part, 10 Downing Street has issued a statement in which it has highlighted the restart of British relations with Brussels, as well as relations between London and Paris. They have also agreed on “closer bilateral cooperation to prevent the vile traffic of small boats” that cross the English Channel, between both countries.
“When discussing global stability in general, they both stressed the need for unity in times of uncertainty. Regarding the Middle East, they agreed on the importance of stability and security in the region, as well as the need to avoid a regional escalation,” reads the note.
Regarding Ukraine, the leaders have reiterated their “unwavering” support and have discussed “the importance of ensuring that Ukraine is in the strongest possible position in 2025.”
