Egyptian authorities called for “unity” among Palestinian factions this Thursday during a meeting with representatives of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) in Cairo, the country’s capital, as Israel continues its offensive against the Gaza Strip.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelati, has stressed that it is “necessary” to strengthen “the role of the Palestinian Authority to ensure that the aspirations and desires of the people are realized,” according to a statement.
Thus, he has reaffirmed Egypt’s support for the Palestinian authorities and has reiterated the rejection of “any project that involves the displacement of Palestinians from their own land.” Among the members of the delegation are the president of the Palestinian National Council, Rawhi Fatuh, as well as Ahmad Majdalani and Azzam al Ahmad, members of the Executive Committee.
In addition, the parties have addressed issues such as Egypt’s efforts to end the war, the possibility of achieving a ceasefire between the parties and the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gazan population.
Last week, the Egyptian government held talks with Fatah, the party of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) about the possibility of uniting all Palestinians under a single authority when it ends. the Israeli offensive, which has already left more than 46,000 dead in the Palestinian enclave.
