This year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is in full swing and Sony has unveiled an impressive list of announcements and reveals. Among them is an Immersive Entertainment Concept trailer focused on an adaptation of the popular video game and television series. the last of us.
The trailer, which you can watch below, showcases Sony’s innovative approach to expanding its internal narratives into new, immersive media. The proof-of-concept project leverages cutting-edge location-based technologies, including Sony glass LED panels, immersive audio, haptics, aromas and atmospheric effects, to fully transport audiences into the heart of these stories.
Now you’re probably wondering: what does this have to do with Ghostbusters? While the last of us takes center stage in the presentation, two other major Sony properties also receive attention: Horizon Zero Dawn and you guessed it, Ghostbusters!
He Ghostbusters The images show a fabricated New York City overpass. The iconic Hook & Ladder 8 fire station is shown, accompanied by a group of ghouls, including Slimer, Muncher and, replacing the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, an imposing not-so-Mini-Puft. Again, while The Last of Us is the clear focus, it goes without saying that being among Sony’s most successful and easily recognizable IPs, it wouldn’t be surprising to hear of further development that combines Ghostbusters with the location-based entertainment technology of Sony.
If this all sounds familiar, there’s a good reason. At last year’s CES, the same Ghostbusters Images appeared at the Sony presentation, accompanied by an immersive on-site experience where attendees came face to face with that oversized Mini-Puft.
Of course, Ghostbusters is not new to location-based attractions. Previous companies like HOLOGATED Ghostbusters Virtual Reality Academy and The void Ghostbusters Dimension have allowed fans to don unlicensed nuclear accelerators while pushing the limits with cutting-edge virtual reality technology and unique sensory effects, like the unmistakable aroma of charred marshmallows.
