Israel recovers the lifeless body of a hostage in an underground tunnel in Rafah

MADRID Jan. 8 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have reported that, after a military operation in the southern Gaza Strip on Tuesday, its troops managed to recover the lifeless body of Yosef Ziyadne, one of the 240 hostages kidnapped by the Movement. of Islamic Resistance (Hamas) during the attacks of October 7, 2023.

As detailed by the Israeli Army on its official profile on social networks, the military device had the collaboration of the Shin Bet (the internal Intelligence agency) and served to recover Ziyadne’s body from an underground tunnel in the city of Rafá, in southern Gaza.

“In addition, as part of the rescue operation, findings were found related to Yosef’s son, Hamza Ziyadne, who was also kidnapped on October 7 and raises serious concerns for his life,” added the Israeli forces, who claim to be doing “everything possible” to free the hostages.

The Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023 against Israeli territory left almost 1,200 dead and another 240 hostages, who were forcibly transported into the Gaza Strip. This motivated the bloody Israeli military response, which has already claimed nearly 46,000 lives.

The parties have barely reached agreements in the more than fifteen months of war, with the exception of a pact in December 2023 that led to the release of nearly a hundred hostages in exchange for three times as many Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons. IDF operations in Gaza have managed to recover several more kidnapped people, although the vast majority are already dead.

It is currently estimated that there are still around a hundred hostages in Hamas custody, although their state of health is unknown. The Israeli and Hamas authorities have sat down again at the negotiating table to try to reach an agreement that will culminate in the release of all the hostages.
