The president of Iran, Masud Pezeshkian, has called this Wednesday for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from “occupied Syrian territories” and has warned of the reactivation of “terrorist cells” in the country after the fall of the president of Syria, Bashar al Assad, after the offensive led by jihadists and rebels.

“There is a need for the Zionist regime to withdraw from the occupied territories and respect the importance of religious sentiments, especially with regard to the Shiites and their places of worship,” warned the president of Iran, who has remained on the sidelines. Al Assad’s side throughout the conflict, which began in 2011.
Since the fall of the Syrian regime, Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes against Syrian military facilities, claiming an attempt to prevent “strategic weapons” from ending up in “hostile hands.”
The Israeli Government has also defended its presence in the “buffer zone” on the border with Syria and has said that it responds to the “threat from jihadist groups” that have already violated the withdrawal agreement reached between the parties. in 1974 to ensure safety.
