MADRID Jan. 8 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The former Minister of Justice of Tunisia and senior Ennahda official Nurredí Bhiri, detained since February 2023 accused of conspiring against the State, has been hospitalized, which has prevented his appearance in court scheduled for this Tuesday.
The opposition Chaima Issa, belonging to the National Salvation Front (FSN), has confirmed Bhiri’s hospitalization in a publication on her Facebook social network account, clarifying that she planned to “appear before the Court of Appeal of Tunisia for the case.” of the missing blog entry for which he was sentenced to ten years in prison.
A court sentenced the opponent in October 2024 to ten years in prison for conspiring against the State, inciting civil disobedience and calling for insurrection, based on a publication on social networks that his lawyer, the opponent Samir Dilou, has reported as “untraceable”.
It is not the first time that the opponent has been hospitalized since he was arrested in February 2023 for allegedly conspiring against the Tunisian authorities through his activity on social networks, for which Ennahda has denounced his situation on numerous occasions.
The Islamist formation has for months denounced the authoritarian drift of the president, Kais Saied, who in May 2021 assumed all powers after dissolving the Government and suspending Parliament – headed by the leader of Ennahda, Rachid Ghanuchi -, subsequently dissolved.
The opposition, mostly united around the FSN, has since denounced the increase in repression and has demanded Saied’s resignation, especially given the wave of arrests of opponents, activists and journalists and the low participation rates in the constitutional referendum and the elections held since then in Tunisia.
