MADRID Jan. 8 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The United Nations has appealed this Wednesday for another 371.4 million dollars (about 350 million euros) in humanitarian aid to “save the lives” of the millions of civilians in Lebanon who have been affected by the recent conflict and the worsening of the crisis that the country was already going through.
The UN, together with the Lebanese Government, has requested this new amount with an eye on the “urgent humanitarian needs of the population” in the context of the clashes between the Israeli Army and the Lebanese party-militia Hezbollah. In October, the organization already requested some 426 million dollars (around 412 million euros) to provide aid to the displaced population.
Since then, more than 125,000 people remain displaced and thousands face “major challenges in rebuilding their lives,” as highlighted by Imran Riza, UN humanitarian coordinator in Lebanon, according to a statement. Therefore, this additional help is necessary to “save lives and prevent the deterioration of a situation that is already terrible in itself,” he clarified.
This request fundamentally seeks to help one million Lebanese, Syrian and Palestinian refugees, as well as a large number of migrants affected by the humanitarian crisis.
This announcement comes shortly after the US Administration transferred more than 100 million dollars (96 million euros) to Lebanon on Friday to maintain the ceasefire, although it has also provided aid to Egypt and Israel to support the Lebanese Government. and his Army.
