MADRID Jan. 8 () –
The United States Government has announced the confiscation of the properties that the Russian oligarch Viktor Perevalov has in the city of Miami, valued at 1.8 million dollars (about 1.7 million euros), in response to the violation of the sanctions imposed against Moscow for the invasion of Ukraine.
“Following a forfeiture order, the Department has frozen two luxury apartments in Miami that have been rented in violation of United States sanctions against Russian national Viktor Perevalov,” the US State Department said in a statement.
In this sense, he pointed out that this decision shows “once again” that the attempt to “hide assets behind front men and shell companies is a risky game in the short term with real costs in the long term.”
“The prosecutors and agents who investigated and presented this case are proof that the United States has the people, the tools and the will to vigorously apply the sanctions programs it has in place,” the text states.
The measure comes after the Treasury added Perevalov to its sanctions list in January 2018 for the invasion of the Crimean peninsula, which Russia annexed in 2014. He is the co-founder of the Russian construction company VAD, which has participated in construction work on the Tavrida highway, in Crimea.
