The Institute points out that the December job losses equal a monthly rate of -1.8%.
With the data from the last month of the year, the generation of formal jobs throughout 2024 was low compared to previous years, not counting 2020, the year of the pandemic, when -647,710 positions were lost.
Between January and December 2024, the creation of formal jobs stood at 213,993 positions, 67% lower than those generated in 2023 (651,490).
The 2024 figure is even below the lowest range of Banxico’s estimate, which was 250,000 formal jobs.
In total, there are 22,238,379 formal jobs registered with the IMSS, 87% are permanent and 13% are temporary.
The economic sectors with the highest annual percentage growth in 2024 in jobs are transportation and communications, with 3.9%; commerce, with 2.8%; electricity, with 2.3%; and business services, with 2.1%.
By federal entity, the State of Mexico, Hidalgo and Guerrero stand out, with annual increases greater than or equal to 4%.
