Flood alert declared in Manchester region

MADRID Jan. 1 () –

The British authorities have declared a “major incident” due to the floods that have affected the Greater Manchester region in recent hours.

The declaration serves “to ensure that we can continue to keep people safe through a coordinated effort of our emergency services supported by the relevant agencies,” explained the Chief Superintendent of Greater Manchester Police, Colette Rose, quoted by the network. SkyNews.

The authorities have urged the population to stay informed through the communication channels of each of the city councils, the Fire Service and the Greater Manchester Department of Transport, which update information on road closures. “Travel is only recommended if necessary,” Rose warned.

Mountain rescue personnel have been sent to the area to collaborate with the Fire Department due to the large number of reports of damage to property and vehicles trapped in the area.

Among the affected towns are Bolton, Didsbury, Harpurhey, Stalybridge, Stockport and Wigan, according to the Greater Manchester Police notice.
