MADRID Dec. 25 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported this Wednesday that, according to their estimates, around 3,800 members of the Shiite militia party Hezbollah have died since the start of hostilities against Lebanon, which began in early October 2023 after Hamas attacks, including some 44 since the ceasefire agreement in late November.
Hostilities in Lebanon broke out after Hezbollah took advantage of the Hamas attacks of October 7, 2023 to attack northern Israel. The border area between the two countries was the scene of exchanges of blows until the IDF launched a ground offensive on southern Lebanon and launched numerous airstrikes against cities, including the capital, Beirut.
This intensification of attacks has left more than 2,750 Hezbollah militants dead, according to the Israeli Army, including senior officials of the Islamist group such as its historic secretary general, Hasan Nasrallah, and a large part of the political and military leadership.
According to Lebanese authorities, Israeli attacks have claimed more than 4,000 lives since the outbreak of hostilities nearly fifteen months ago. However, the warring parties reached an agreement at the end of November for a ceasefire to cease attacks and cede ground in southern Lebanon in favor of the regular Lebanese Army.
Both Israel and Hezbollah have accused each other of having violated the agreement, and this new IDF report, collected by the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’, confirms that the Israeli Army has eliminated more than 40 other people allegedly linked to Hezbollah. in recent weeks.
