The coveted bottles of Fillico are only found on the tables of the rich, and at high-end parties. A standard bottle costs 1,000 euros, but limited editions go up to 10,000 euros. Is this a French wine that has been aged for decades? An aged Scotch whiskey? In Fillico bottles there is only… water.

The Japanese company Fillico was founded in 2005 with a goal that seems crazy: to turn a bottle of water into a luxury.

Almost 20 years later, he has certainly achieved it. Their 1,000-euro water bottles often sell outand the 10,000 euro editions end up on the tables of actors and millionairesand in luxury restaurants.

How is it possible that a bottle of water is worth 10,000 euros?

From a commercial point of view, Fillico’s marketing strategy deserves to be studied in economics schools. And it surely already happens.

First of all, we have the quality of the product. Fillico’s water is among the purest in the worldgiven that proceeds from the Nunobiki spring, deep in Rokkou National Park, Kobe. This spring water is filtered naturally through volcanic rock, obtaining a series of minerals that give it a unique flavor.

Fillico uses special techniques to bottle water with minimal industrial processing, maintaining its purity.

Getting extremely pure and tasty water is not enough to ask 1,000 euros for a liter. There are high quality waters all over the world, and many of them are free, or barely worth 2 or 3 euros a bottle.

To create a unique experience, Fillico designs artistic bottles that include Swarovski crystals, gold and silver decorations, and real diamonds.

It also has thematic designs inspired by the signs of the zodiac, Hello Kitty, Christmas, the seasons, haute couture fashion, etc.

Again, even with a luxurious look, it is not enough to convince people to pay a million for a liter of water. It must be turned into a desirable object. As? Making the rich and famous consume it.

Fillico started a very well studied advertising campaignteaming up with Christian Dior to serve water at their parties, and becoming an official sponsor of the Cannes Film Festivalso that cameras would show famous actors drinking Fillico water at press conferences.

The campaign was a complete success. Fillico water began to be associated with the rich and famousand sales began to rise. The last masterstroke has been produce in limited quantities: only 5,000 bottles per month.

In 20 years, Fillico has achieved what seemed impossible: turn water into a luxury productand sell their Fillico water bottles at prices between 1,000 and 10,000 euros. Absolutely stunning.
