MADRID Dec. 23 (EUROPA PRESS) –
At least five people have died in an Israeli bombardment against tents for displaced Palestinians located near the British Hospital, in the so-called “humanitarian zone” of Al Mawasi, which is located in Khan Yunis, on the southern coast of the Gaza Strip. .
Local sources consulted by the Palestinian news agency WAFA have indicated that there are “dozens of wounded with various injuries” and that the air attack has caused fires that are making it difficult for rescue teams to access the victims.
For its part, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have indicated that a fighter jet has attacked “a terrorist” from the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) “who was operating in the humanitarian zone of Khan Younis.” “Prior to the attack, many measures were taken to reduce the possibility of harm to civilians,” he added.
The Israeli authorities have insisted that Hamas “systematically violates international law, while cruelly exploiting the population and the humanitarian zone as a shield for terrorist operations.”
In October 2023, the Israeli Army began a bloody offensive against the Gaza Strip following the Hamas attacks, which left 1,200 dead and about 250 hostages. Since then, Gazan authorities have recorded the deaths of 45,200 Palestinians, in addition to more than 800 Palestinians killed at the hands of Israeli security forces and in attacks by settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
