MADRID Dec. 22 () –

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, reported this Saturday that a total of 27 Spaniards have been evacuated from the French archipelago of Mayotte, after the passage of cyclone ‘Chido’.

“Yesterday, 27 Spaniards evacuated thanks to cooperation with France landed in Reunion from Mayotte,” Albares said in a message published on his account on the social network X.

In the consular registry there are 45 Spanish citizens registered as residents in the area, although the colony itself has indicated that there could be more than 70.

“To the Spaniards who are still in Mayotte: from the Ministry and our Consulate General of Spain in Paris fully operational. Consular emergency telephone: +33 (0) 6 15 93 87 01”, added Albares.

More than a week after the passage of the cyclone, the authorities maintain an official figure of 31 deaths although the prefect of the territory, François-Xavier Bieuville, already anticipated last weekend that the cyclone would have left “hundreds of dead” with complete certainty. which could be “thousands.”
