ALMOST 25,000 TRAINS WILL CIRCULATE ON THE SPANISH RAILWAY NETWORK
A total of 24,840 high-speed, long and medium distance trains, from the three railway companies that operate in Spain (Renfe, Iryo and Ouigo), will circulate on the country’s railway network throughout Christmas, from December 19 to January 8, according to Adif data.
Yesterday, Friday, in the first ‘exit operation’, was the day with the highest traffic, with 1,300 circulations, highlighting the 431 that will leave or arrive in Madrid through Atocha or Chamartín, stations that will concentrate 8,000 trains during these three festive weeks.
Specifically, Puerta de Atocha Almudena Grandes, origin and destination of the lines that link the capital with Barcelona and Andalusia, has the departure and arrival of 4,800 trains scheduled during all the holidays.
These circulations are added to the 3,246 trains that will depart or arrive at Chamartín Clara Campoamor, the origin and destination station of the lines to Levante, north and northwest of the country.
Likewise, until January 8, Barcelona Sants foresees the arrival and departure of 2,742 trains, and the Seville Santa Justa station, another 1,660. 1,434 trains will pass through Zaragoza Delicias, 1,287 through Valladolid Campo Grande, 1,167 through Málaga María Zambrano and 1,131 through València Joaquín Sorolla, at the same time that a total of 471 trains will depart or arrive from Ourense, another 414 from León and 225 trains from that of Oviedo.
The circulations scheduled for these holidays are in line with the growth recorded by this mode of mobility, which will close 2024 with another record, since rail traffic accumulated an increase of 10% as of September over the maximum with which it already closed 2023.
Adif has also reinforced its Adif About service at the main stations, the assistance it offers to travelers with disabilities or reduced mobility to facilitate their passage through the stations, and getting on and off the train.
In this sense, some 600 assistants in 146 railway stations provide this service, which can be requested at the time of purchasing the ticket and in person at 70 train stations.
