How much time Colombians dedicate to studying the English language

For the second consecutive year, Colombian students stand out as the most active and dedicated in learning the English language in Latin America, according to a report from the Open English platform.

About 70% of Colombians who study English there are categorized by their frequency in using the tool in the top 1%, 5% and 10%, while in the rest of Latin America it is close to 60%.

According to this data, the most active Colombians on the platform dedicate an average of two more hours per month to studying English when compared to their peers in the rest of the world. And what’s more, Colombian students categorized in the top 1% spend about 4 hours more per month studying English than their counterparts worldwide and almost 3 hours more than the rest of Latin America.

These data are the result of an analysis carried out for the Open English year-end initiative Best Of 2024: Year in Review, which this time gives students the opportunity to find out what their preferred learning style is between asynchronous activities such as lessons and exercises that students can do at their own pace; and live classes with native teachers. In all categories analyzed, Colombian students active in their learning prefer to combine synchronous and asynchronous activities.

Forms of learning based on VARK theory indicate that although people may have an affinity for a learning modality based on visual, auditory, kinesthetic elements, or reading/writing; The ideal is to use a combination of these. And this is precisely what Open English students find on their platform.
