Sony becomes the majority shareholder of Kadokawa Corporation, owner of FromSoftware

Sony Group Corporation has become the largest shareholders of Kadokawa Corporationparent company of the video game development company FromSoftware, a new relationship with which they hope to boost the intellectual property and intellectual property creation ecosystem.

In recent weeks, Sony’s intention to buy Kadokawa, a Japanese parent company of different subsidiaries dedicated to entertainment, including, FromSoftware development studio, responsible for games like Elden Ring, Bloodborne and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.

Finally, Sony has not bought Kadokawa, but has become the majority shareholder after acquiring new shares, worth 50,000 million yen (about 305 million euros at the exchange rate). Together with those you bought in 2021, you now have approximately 10 percent of the shares.

In this way, and after collaborating on several projects, advance a commercial and capital relationship, with which they aim to “maximize the value of the intellectual property of both companies worldwide and facilitate broader and deeper collaboration, such as possible joint investments in the field of content, the discovery of new creators and the promotion of new combinations of means of the intellectual property of both companies,” they have expressed in a joint statement.
