The former president of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, despite having handed over the position to his son Serdar, continues to be proud of the title of “father of the country” and in his honor the brand new smart-city is being built under the name of Arkadag. And he has asked that the construction period be shortened to settle a greater proportion of new inhabitants and attract other investments.
Ashgabat () – Former president Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, president of the Senate of Turkmenistan and father of the current president Serdar, continues to boast the title of Arkadag, the “father of the country”, and in his honor a new smart city is being built with the same name as Arkadag. However, the father-president is concerned about the schedule, and has urged that the construction of the necessary facilities be accelerated for the full satisfaction of those who are destined to settle in this new “Turkmen paradise.”
In his last inspection visit in recent days, the chairman of the state committee for the realization of Arkadag, Derjageldi Orazov, solemnly handed over to Gurbanguly the award certificates “for the high architectural and ecological level” of the city, which were delivered on December 9 in Vienna at the Esqr’s Quality Choice Prize 2024 awards ceremony. State media also mentions the international registration of the city’s medicinal production by the international office of the World Health Organization. Intellectual Property.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ashgabat issued a statement in this regard, according to which “the city of Arkadag has been recognized as a smart and innovative city with exclusive quality standards, awarded for its achievements in the composition of the most modern technologies along with practices of absolute ecological purity, offering a model of contemporary urbanization at an international level.
The chairman of the Khalk Maslakhat, the Turkmen Senate, stressed that “this is an international confirmation of the quality of the medicines we produce, baby food, sterile articles and bandages necessary for the stomatological system.” Orazov then reported on the construction schedule of the “second phase” of the project, which concerns not only the healthcare buildings, but also a large shopping center, a bridge over the central Geoktepe prospekt and various materials for decorating the outside the city.
The plan to remake the grand boulevard from the Akhan monument to the other Taycanak monument (the “little colt”) was illustrated, with the choice of trees to be planted, instead of the first project not approved by Arkadag, which recommended “place each building in correspondence with its purpose”, and install images of the international awards won so far on the arches of the new bridge.
The mayor of Arkadag, Gulšat Mammedova, also spoke at the meeting, reporting on the settlement of the first inhabitants in the new houses, and on preparations for the New Year celebrations. Also in this case, the former president insisted that “the decoration of the New Year festivities must correspond to the needs of contemporary reality.” He then requested that the president-father ask the president-son for permission to hold a session of the Khalk Maslakhat in Arkadag in 2025.
Gurbanguly then asked Orazov to shorten the terms of the “second phase”, in order to settle a greater proportion of new inhabitants and attract other investments for industrial and health purposes, with the necessary equipment. At the end of the meeting, the “father of the country” met with the general director of the French company Bouygues Türkmen, Aleksej Rešov, who in turn outlined the deadlines and methods for carrying out various projects and subsequent plans, always with “cutting-edge methods” in construction and the use of the necessary materials.
