Latest news on the war between Russia and Ukraine
26 Aug. (EUROPE PRRESS) –
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has applauded that the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant is once again connected to the electricity grid after Thursday’s cut, which only underlines the “potential vulnerability” of key facilities.
The fighting in the vicinity of the plant forced an unprecedented disconnection from the electricity grid on Thursday, after the closure of the only line that is still active. This Friday, the Ukrainian authorities considered the incident over, which forced them to activate the backup generators to avoid a possible accident.
The director of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, has defended that Thursday’s cut demonstrates the “urgent” need to send an expert mission as soon as possible, for which he maintains “active and intense consultations” with all parties. He trusts that there will be an agreement “in the next few days”.
Sources quoted by ‘The Wall Street Journal’ have assured that preparations are already underway and that the IAEA’s visit to Zaporizhia will take place, a priori, at the beginning of next week, an end that for now neither kyiv nor Moscow have confirmed. .
