The Ukrainian authorities have dismantled an alleged spy network that monitored military positions and was “specialized” in obtaining information related to the F-16, the fighters donated to kyiv by its Western allies to contain the Russian invasion.
The investigations have uncovered “12 Russian agents and their informants”, according to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), which has identified part of the detainees as “deserters” from the Ukrainian Armed Forces who were captured by Russian Intelligence. .
The work of this cell spread across five regions, although its leader all lived in Dnipropetrovsk, in eastern Ukraine. The ringleader had false identification documents with which he could present himself as an “anti-corruption activist” or “volunteer,” according to the SBU statement.
The suspects, who also sought to identify companies involved in electronic protection against Russian drones, face penalties that can range from eight years in prison to life imprisonment if convicted.
