US kills 12 Islamic State terrorists in precise airstrikes in Syria

MADRID Dec. 16 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Central Command of the United States Armed Forces (CENTCOM) reported this Monday that its forces have carried out “precision” airstrikes against targets of the jihadist group Islamic State in Syria that have resulted in the death of 12 terrorists. .

CENTCOM explained in a statement that the attacks took place “in areas controlled by the former regime and Russia.” These targeted bombings against Islamic State leaders, operatives and camps are part of the “ongoing mission” to defeat the jihadist group.

“CENTCOM, in collaboration with its allies and partners in the region, will not allow the Islamic State to reconstitute itself and take advantage of the current situation in Syria,” said General Michael Erik Kurilla, alluding to the fall of the Syrian regime.

The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, already justified this type of action by the Air Force last week, alleging that Washington’s objective is to “prevent the resurgence” of the Islamic State.

The offensive in Syria, launched on November 27 from the province of Idlib, allowed jihadists and rebels to take the capital, Damascus, and put an end to the regime of the Al Assad family, in power since 1971 – first with Hafez al Assad (1971-2000) and later with his son, Bashar–, in the face of a constant withdrawal of government troops, backed by Russia and Iran.
