MADRID Dec. 16 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Turkish authorities have raised this Monday to more than 35 the deaths during the last six weeks due to the consumption of adulterated home-made alcohol in the city of Istanbul (north), before adding that another 40 were hospitalized, with 23 already discharged.
The governor’s office of Istanbul has indicated in a statement published on its account on the social network .
Likewise, he stressed that the security forces have carried out inspections in 1,002 points in the city, with the seizure of more than 14,700 bottles. “Inspections of counterfeit alcoholic beverages will continue uninterruptedly in the city,” he concluded.
Alcoholic beverages have a heavy tax burden in Turkey, something that would be behind an increase in smuggling and illegal production of alcohol, the consumption of which is more commonly resorted to by people with fewer economic resources.
