Two teenagers were shot to death and four others — including a 13-year-old girl — were wounded during a shooting at a makeshift club in Houston, police said Sunday.
Arriving at the scene of the shooting Saturday night, officers found “a pretty chaotic scene — a large crowd of people coming out of a makeshift club,” Deputy Police Chief Luis Menendez-Sierra said at a news conference.
Police had not yet identified any suspects and asked that people who were at the event contact police if they have any information.
According to police, some witnesses told detectives that they saw a man dressed all in black, including a hoodie and a black mask covering his face, who fired a gun toward a group of people at the scene.
A 16-year-old boy died at the scene and a 14-year-old girl died at the hospital, police said. His identity has not been released until it is verified by the medical examiner.
Four women were hospitalized due to their injuries. The 13-year-old girl was in critical condition, while an 18-year-old teenager was in serious condition; A 17-year-old girl and a 19-year-old girl were in stable condition, according to police.
Menéndez-Sierra said that the majority of those attending the event, which was apparently organized through social networks, were minors. He indicated that the meeting took place in an empty business.
Harris County Police Chief Ed Gonzalez posted on the social network X that “impromptu and unauthorized parties can quickly lead to chaos and violence.”
“Spontaneous parties raise public safety concerns and teens should stay away for their own safety,” he added.
