The chancellor of Germany, the social democrat Olaf Scholz, has assured that Europe will help in the reconstruction of Syria after the fall of Bashar al Assad’s regime, and has celebrated that “after all the suffering, all Syrians deserve a free and safe life.” “.

“Hooray! Freedom! This cry echoed in Syria and in many German cities. After all the suffering, all Syrians deserve a free and safe life. We are working with our partners to realize their hope: freedom at last for his homeland!”, said the German leader in a publication late on Friday on the social network X.

In this sense, Scholz has maintained that “at last” “the hope of freedom after 54 years of inhuman dictatorship” has arrived.

“Freedom? Real freedom? That must have been the question asked by the tens of thousands of political prisoners who have been released from Assad’s torture dungeons in recent days,” he asserted.

The German president was thus referring to some images disseminated in recent days in the media that, according to him, “get under the skin”, which reflect the conditions that political prisoners have suffered in prisons such as Sednaya, known for being one of the most brutal detention centers in the world.

Likewise, Scholz has also insisted on the future of the country: “It is also important that Syria preserves its sovereignty and territorial integrity as a State.”

“No country is the backyard of another stronger country. After all the suffering, all Syrians deserve to live in freedom and security. Ensuring this is the most important task of the new rulers. We will work with them on this basis. Europe too will help reconstruction,” he reiterated.

The chancellor has also sent a message to the Syrians who are in Germany, to whom he has conveyed that “they are and will continue to be welcome” to the country. “That is completely evident,” he added.

The offensive in Syria, launched on November 27 from the province of Idlib, allowed jihadists and rebels to take the capital and put an end to the regime of the Al Assad family, in power since 1971 – first with Hafez al Assad (1971-2000). ) and later with his son, Bashar–, in the face of a constant withdrawal of government troops, backed by Russia and Iran.
