MADRID Dec. 13 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The new interim authorities established in Syria after the fall of the Bashar al Assad regime have handed over to the United States Army this Friday the American citizen Travis Timmerman, who remained imprisoned in a Syrian prison.

The National Salvation Government, the political entity led by the jihadist group Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS), has confirmed in a statement that Timmerman, 29, has been handed over to the US authorities, and has published photographs of the moment.

Timmerman, who was initially confused with the American journalist Austin Tice – who has been missing since 2012 – was freed by rebel militiamen after the fall of Al Assad. He was detained earlier this year by Syrian officials after irregularly crossing the border from Lebanon.

The man, who was located after wandering barefoot for days through the streets of the capital, was on a pilgrimage in Syria before his arrest. Authorities in Missouri and Budapest had previously reported him missing in May.
