The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported this Friday that Ukrainian authorities have been forced to reduce production at the country’s main nuclear power plants following the latest attacks carried out by Russian forces against the country’s energy infrastructure.
Thus, he has detailed that five of the nine reactors that are still operational have been affected, as he has indicated in a message broadcast through his account on X, a day after confirming that his observers will continue to be deployed at the plant. Zaporizhzhia, the largest in Europe, despite the attack on one of its vehicles on Tuesday.
However, three other nuclear power plants have not been directly affected, but have also had to reduce production due to voltage fluctuations in the electrical grid. This has led the IAEA to remind us of the importance of avoiding incidents that could lead to nuclear accidents.
The Zaporizhia power plant remains under the control of Russian troops, who took over the plant after the invasion began almost three years ago.
For their part, Russian authorities have assured that these bombings respond to the attack recently carried out by the Ukrainian Armed Forces against an air base around Taganrog, on the shores of the Sea of Azov, using American-made ATACMS.
