So one of the central elements of Ferguson, who served as Virginia’s attorney general, will be to investigate the censorship of conservative views online and whether social media platforms collaborate to suppress those views.
He has also mentioned that they will investigate cases such as that of
“We must vigorously enforce antitrust laws against any platform that illegally limits Americans’ ability to freely and openly exchange ideas,” Ferguson stated.
Lina Khan leaves the FTC, leaving unfinished cases
Khan was appointed as chair of the FTC by Joe Biden and from the beginning of her administration she showed an extremely critical stance towards technology companies. In fact, it was praised by the incoming vice president, JD Vance, who highlighted his stance to prevent the dominance of these companies in certain fields.
Upon his appointment, Ferguson will inherit a list of cases against large technology companies, including Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta and even Apple, in addition to the rapidly evolving cases involving Artificial Intelligence.
One of the most interesting cases is that of Meta, since Ferguson will be in charge of continuing the investigation regarding undoing the acquisition of Instagram and WhatsApp, which began in 2020, during Trump’s first term.
“At the FTC we will end Big Tech’s vendetta against competition and freedom of expression. “We will ensure that America is the world’s technology leader and the best place for innovators to bring new ideas to life,” Ferguson wrote.
