AFGHANISTAN
The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for suicide attack in which the Taliban minister for refugees, Khalil Haqqani, died. Six other people died in the explosion. Khalil Haqqani belonged to the most important faction within the Taliban: his brother, Jalaluddin, founded the Haqqani network after fighting the Soviets, while Jalaluddin’s son, Sirajuddin, is currently the Islamic Emirate’s Interior Minister.
INDIA – BANGLADESH
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused the central government in Delhi for not doing enough to protect religious minorities. Between August 5 and October 22, 88 cases of violence against religious minorities were recorded, as announced in recent days by the provisional government of Bangladesh. Tensions with India increased after the arrest of three Hindu monks.
SOUTH KOREA
Yoon Suk-yeol returned to defend the decision to impose martial law and added that he refuses to resign as president. The statements were made in a televised public speech. According to some senior officials, Yoon’s decision had been premeditated for months after the elections that handed Parliament over to the opposition.
JAPAN – UNITED KINGDOM – ITALY
Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom They will each invest the same amount in their joint venture (announced in December 2022) to develop a new generation fighter aircraft. The goal of the Global Combat Air Program is to deploy aircraft with capabilities beyond those currently in circulation, including the US F-35, by 2035.
