YouTube Kids modernizes and launches a new look

What are the changes to YouTube Kids?

The expected changes are related to what YouTube’s main platform is like:

• Vertical and horizontal position;
• Video categories at the top of the home screen with new look;
• New navigation bar at the bottom to access Home, Search, Your Stuff, and your profile.
• New “Your Material” page, where you can more easily find Watch it Again, Shared and Downloaded content.

Although the new appearance of the platform renews its colors and icons, the same content, parental controls, as well as security functions will be maintained.

According to an announcement from the YouTube Team in support this change is limited to the mobile app on iOS and Android devices in the coming weeks. The web or TV version of YouTube Kids will not have these modifications.

How does YouTube Kids work?

In principle, YouTube Kids applies automatic algorithms and filters to classify content and determine if the videos are appropriate for the three age ranges they are aimed at. It also has manual review processes so that caregivers can locate inappropriate content and report it.

The platform has parental controls available such as blocking content, limiting access to only content types, deactivating search, deleting or pausing history, as well as limiting usage time. The purpose of these rules is to give a protected childhood experience.
