A car bomb kills six people in the port city of Aden, Yemen

June 30. (EUROPA PRESS) –

A car bomb attack against the convoy of the Yemeni military, Salé al Sayed, in the port city of Aden, in the south of the country, has killed at least six people on Wednesday and several have been injured.

At least five civilians and one soldier have died and six others have been injured in the attack, as reported by the Republican Yemen news portal.

Al Sayed, a general in a militia backed by the United Arab Emirates, has survived the attack, military sources have confirmed.

After the assassination attempt, al Sayed himself has appeared in a video promising that he will continue to persecute terrorists.

The UAE-backed militia has announced a state of alert due to the existence of explosive devices in the Jur Maksar area of the town of Aden, sources have told the Yemeni News Agency.

There is no immediate claim to responsibility for the attack, but al Qaeda militants have stepped up their operations in southern Yemen recently.

The war in Yemen pits the internationally recognized government, headed by Abdo Rabbu Mansur Hadi and supported by an international coalition led by Saudi Arabia, against the Houthis, backed by Iran.

The international community has been intensifying its efforts for months to get the parties to sit down to negotiate to end the conflict, which has devastated the country, especially given the deepening humanitarian crisis due to rising prices and Yemen’s dependence on food and wheat imports due to the war in Ukraine.
