Russia claims that new US aid to Ukraine reflects its desire to "prolong the agony"

MADRID Dec. 11 () –

Russian authorities said Wednesday that the latest US aid package for Ukraine reflects Washington’s desire to “prolong the agony of the regime of Volodymyr Zelensky,” the Ukrainian president.

This was expressed by the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zajarova, who stressed that this is the “maniacal desire” of the US Government, “to prolong the agony of Zelensky and all those who have been involved in corruption created by the “Biden Administration on Ukraine.”

Zajarova has responded in this way to the new aid given by the United States to the country, which has been facing the Russian invasion for almost three years. On Tuesday, the US Treasury Department announced the delivery of a loan of 20 billion dollars (19 billion euros) to the Ukrainian authorities, which will have to repay this amount through frozen Russian assets.

However, the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, who plans to take office next January, has clarified that ending the war in Ukraine is one of the “top priorities of American policy”, an issue which he had already defended during the electoral campaign.

“The priority is to resolve the conflict,” he said during an interview with the French interview ‘Paris Match’. In this sense, he indicated that the situation in Ukraine is even “more complicated” than in the Middle East, where “the Syrians will have to resolve the crisis alone because the United States is not involved in that conflict.”
