In 2020, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and the Republic of Korea began a collaboration to improve national capacities to promote NbS in agriculture, within the framework of a sustainable economic recovery, which includes an agroecological transition and regional bioeconomic development.
Uruguay has recently approved the “National Plan for the Promotion of Production with Agroecological Bases”. This entails the development of a key information base to scientifically support agroecological transitions in the country. This task requires defining the paths to travel, establishing the phases of these routes, as well as the necessary metrics to monitor progress. The design and management of transitions pose challenges for the articulation of existing policies, investments, incentives, and regulations.
The general objective of this meeting is to promote a national discussion on the design, monitoring and management of agroecological transitions in Uruguay.
Specific objectives of the event:
- Communicate knowledge about NbS in agriculture and agroecological transitions.
- Share experiences on how to move towards production models based on nature, and the key measurements in that future.
- Identify elements for the design of policies for the agroecological transition in Uruguay.
