MADRID Dec. 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Armed Forces of Taiwan have activated this Monday the maximum alert in the face of the growing threat from China after the Asian giant has launched a large military deployment in the vicinity of the territory, which it considers another province under its sovereignty.
The measure has been adopted after detecting the deployment of almost a hundred warships of the Chinese Army in waters near the island, as indicated by the Taiwanese Government, which seeks to take extreme precautions and facilitate the combat capabilities of its troops.
The Taiwanese Ministry of Defense has indicated in a statement that the alert has been declared due to “the actions of the Chinese Army”, for which “strategic” as well as “meteorological and tactical” issues will be assessed. Likewise, he has indicated that he has managed to identify naval formations and Coast Guard vessels near the Taiwan Strait and in areas of the Pacific near the archipelago.
The decision by the Taiwanese authorities comes as tension increases over the possibility that China will launch military exercises in response to the tour carried out last week by the president of Taiwan, Lai Ching Te, who stopped in the United States on despite warnings from Beijing.
The Chinese government on Friday accused Lai of “seeking independence with the help of the United States,” an issue that will only lead the authorities to “hit a wall.” Previously, he had asked the United States Government to prohibit his passage through US territory within the framework of his visit to several Pacific countries.
