One of the main whims of millionaires is to buy a yacht, although there is no shortage of those who prefer to invest in private submarines. These small vessels can be deployed from larger vessels and allow you to explore the depths of the ocean from a unique perspective.
Over the last few years we have seen private submarines appear on the scene with different prices and characteristics. A vehicle called Nemo cost more than half a million euros. Those with a bigger budget could opt for the Triton 660 for more than 2.5 million euros.
A private submarine for millionaires
In between these two alternatives is the Super Falcon 3S. It is a personal submarine of just under 2 million euros which stands out for one aspect: it bears very little resemblance to the other models with which it competes. It is like a plane that can move underwater.
The company has this concept printed in its own name (DeepFlight), which we can translate into Spanish as “Deep Flight”. As suggested by the trio of spherical domes shown in images of the submarine, the Super Falcon 3S has been designed to carry a maximum of three people.
Each of them has at their disposal a complete system of controls. This allows anyone on board to take control. For example, someone more experienced can momentarily hand over controls to the submarine owner so they can have a more complete experience.
At a more technical level we can say that the Super Falcon 3S moves thanks to an electric propulsion system. Everything runs on lithium iron phosphate batteries, a system that can generate 14 kWh (18.7 HP) of power and which is enough for the submarine to move at about 4 knots (7.4 km/h).
This is a reduced speed, but it is on par with ships with similar characteristics. After all your mission is to safely complete a walk along the bottom of the ocean. In this type of activity there is no rush, as there is on transport or military ships.
Speaking of safety, the submarine has several systems to respond in the event of an incident. For example, it has an emergency flotation device for return to the surface and a depth protection system to avoid descending beyond the safety threshold.
It also has two oxygen systems that operate independently and a life support system that can work for 72 hours. This should be enough for a search and rescue team to locate the submarine in case it fails to return to the surface.
While DeepFlight products are primarily aimed at millionaires, Four Seasons Resort in Maldives has one of these units. Guests of the luxury hotel can pay extra to have their own marine experience aboard a Super Falcon 3S in Baa Atoll.
