The UN special envoy for Syria calls for establishing a "stable and inclusive" transition

MADRID Dec. 8 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The United Nations special envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, has stated that it is a “decisive moment” in the country’s history and has urged the establishment of a “stable and inclusive” transition after the fall of the regime of Syrian President Bashar al Assad.

Pedersen has urged in a statement to chart a path to satisfy the “legitimate aspirations” of the Syrian people and to reach a “unified Syria” with “sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity” so that the country can receive support of the entire international community.

“This dark chapter has left deep scars, but today we cautiously hope that a new one will open, one of peace, reconciliation, dignity and inclusion for all Syrians,” he stressed, adding that the end of the Syrian Government puts an end to to “nearly 14 years of unrelenting suffering and unspeakable loss.”

In this sense, Pedersen has “taken note” of the public statements by the alliance of jihadists and Syrian rebels, which have guaranteed that they will protect their compatriots, as well as state institutions against “retaliation and damage.”

“Urges all Syrians to prioritize dialogue, unity and respect for Humanitarian Law and Human Rights in their efforts to rebuild their society. Underlines that there must be a collective feeling to guarantee peace and dignity for all” , the UN envoy has concluded.
