Musk, who also owns social media platform X, has emerged as a close adviser on Trump’s transition team. The Republican has tapped him, along with former Republican presidential candidate and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, to lead a task force aimed at cutting public spending and regulations.

The two men have called for laying off thousands of federal workers, cutting regulations and eliminating programs whose authorization has expired, such as health care for veterans.
