Distributors Unidos de México (RUM) said they had participated in the session of the Labor and Social Welfare Commission of the Chamber of Deputies.
“Our voices were heard. During the meeting we received the commitment from the members of the Commission not to modify the current disc scheme and to support the agreements built with effort and dialogue between distributors, authorities and companies,” the group noted.
Although RUM called this meeting “an important step,” it said that it was not the end and that its fight will continue until the following points are guaranteed:
- The agreements reached so far with the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS) and the Labor Commission of the Chamber of Deputies are respected and reflected in the proposal that will be voted on in Congress.
- Guarantee that there will be no payment of more taxes. “The STPS and the Labor Commission of the Chamber of Deputies promised us, we will be waiting for SAT to keep its word,” they added.
- That the voices of the delivery workers be heard above the unions that, they detailed, do not represent them.
- May the STPS and Congress keep their word and be supportive during the negotiations with the IMSS.
“As for our income, we remain alert: we will not accept a tax increase or a tax scheme that ignores the costs we assume when purchasing tools or maintaining our means of transportation. Our occupation gives us the freedom to generate income with our own means,” RUM added in a statement.
The group of delivery drivers also said that on December 5, it delivered a counterproposal to the reform initiative in the Chamber of Deputies, but did not give more details about it.
Among other points, Sheinbaum’s proposal contemplates the incorporation of drivers and app delivery people into the IMSS, as long as their monthly income is at least one minimum wage, that is, 7,468 pesos.
The Alliance In Mexico, which brings together digital platforms such as Didi, Rappi and Uber, considered that “there are still relevant issues that “require further analysis and study so that delivery people, drivers, companies and other participants in the ecosystem of digital platforms , have certainty about their rights and obligations.”
